The camping site is located at Hróarsstaðir farm in the valley of Fnjóskadalur in the county of Suður-Þingeyjarsýsla, North Iceland. The camping site in on the west side of the valley, facing the largest natural birch wood in Iceland, Vaglaskógur.

Systragil Camping Ground is in the ownership of the couple Kristján Ingvar Jóhannesson and Agnes Þórunn Guðbergsdóttir. Kristján Ingvar (b.1952) is a farmer and accountant and Agnes Þórunn (b. 1960) is a teacher. They live at Hróarsstaðir where they plant trees, farm a few sheeps and run a guesthouse in the old farm house that has now been renovated.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Lets help each other protect the environment

At Systragil Camping Ground we make an effort to support and increase awareness for the environment with our guests by:

  • Offering our guests services and facilities where responsibility for the nature, the forest and the environment is at the forefront.
  • By choosing resources and products that are either recycled or environmental friendly
  • By minimising the use of materials that create hazardous waste and by recycling or re-using materials whenever possible.
  • By sharing knowledge about the natural features of the area, its history and the link there between.
  • By watching our use of energy, try to minimise it and to make it as economical as possible.
  • By getting rid of hazardous chemicals such as oil, paint and other toxic materials in a responsible way.
  • By regularly picking up trash at the camping site and by the roads in the neighbourhood.
  • By having tidy and labelled trash cans at ready on site where guests can sort their trash in appropriate manner.

The camping site is on three levels, the top one is for campers that stay throughout the summer. Electricity is available through outlets in special boxes at all levels. Above the toilets is a small house with facilities to prepare and cook food for free and a playground for the kids. The camping site is placed in a lush, sheltered spot with an abundance of edible berries and mushrooms that grow in the mountain in autumn.

CAMPING SITE RULES
We kindly ask our guests to follow and respect the camping site rules.

  • The fee will be collected in the morning, possibly in the evening (in case of early morning departure)

  • Running of engines (cars, motorbikes,caravans) is not permitted from 0.00 to 7.00 hours a.m.
  • During this time you are asked to respect the privacy of other guests.
  • Misuse of alcohol is strictly forbidden.
  • Nature is to be respected.
  • Trash should be sorted in to labelled bins; metal, paper, plast, glass bottles and cans go seperatly.
  • Open fire is strictly forbidden.
  • Dogs should be kept on a leash at all times.
  • Disregarding of these rules will lead to a dismission from the camping site.
