You can also for example see the peculiar peninsula Dyrhólaey and the basalt sea stackone Reynisdrangar, couple of Iceland’s more famous landmarks, or take a walk on the nearby black sand beaches.

There is a great chance to see the Puffins at Dyrhólaey during the summertime. Mið-Hvoll isconveniently located for daytrips and thus it is ideal to spend more nights in the cottages. Examples of excellent daytrips are: Vestmannaeyjar, Þórmörk, Landmannalaugar, Fjaðrárgljúfur, Skaftafell or Jökulsárlón.

Furthermore, just east of our cottages you can find the decaying wreck of a Douglas C-117 US Navy airplane that crashed on the black beaches of Sólheimasandur in November 1973. The wreck has become a popular tourist attraction especially after it featured in music videos made by the Icelandic band Sigurrós and the Canadian pop star Justin Bieber.
