At Fjalladýrð Tourist Services, we provide our guests with the chance to experience traditional food, culture, and accommodation in peaceful surroundings. The company emphasizes a variety of nature walks and other forms of outdoor recreation.
Fjalladýrð strives to be environment-friendly and to offer personal service, with the goal of allowing our customers to get closer to their origins. We work to achieve this by offering homemade food, traditional Icelandic rural culture and further recreation options tailored to the particular interests of each group or person.
Fjalladyrd offers accommodation for up to 70 people in made-up beds: private, or shared facility as well as sleeping bag accommodation. A camping ground is also at hand.
A small shop, and the restaurant “Fjallakaffi” – “The Mountain Café” awaits you with homemade delicates like “kleinur” and “Ástarpungar” – an Icelandic doughnuts treat -, not to mention the renowned Icelandic lamb meat soup, Icelandic moss-soup, local trout, and a local lamb steak. All this and more to be found on our menu.
Möðrudalur is the highest settled farm in Iceland, 469 meters ( 1.539 feet) above sea-level. It has been inhabited since early settlement in Iceland. Möðrudalur has served as a presbytery for centuries. The builder of the church in Modrudalur was Jón A. Stefánsson (1880 – 1971). He was a great farmer and a multitask-artist and the altarpiece is made by himself. His son was Stefan ,,Stórval” Jónsson ( 1908 – 1994), one of a kind character and a painter. The panorama view from the farm is interesting in many ways – judge for yourself.

The campsite is open from June to mid-September. For campers, we have longer opening hours at the campground.
Besides a number of everyday consumer goods, we sell Icelandic woolens and handicrafts made by local people.
If you contact us with your expectations regarding your visit, we will do what we can so that you and your companions can enjoy a memorable stay at our farm.
At the farm’s Fjallakaffi, or “Café in the Mountains”, you can partake of either light refreshments or a full meal, as well as buying basic travelling articles. You might for instance try traditional waffles with cream, the Icelandic deep-fried kleina or Ástarpungur (Love ball) prepared in the Möðrudalur way, or other pastries and breads direct from our kitchen. Surrounded by highland sheep ranges, Fjallakaffi honours yet another Icelandic tradition, the lambsoup kjötsúpa, in addition to selling sweets and other light meals, such as Iceland Moss Soup, sandwiches, Happy Marrige cake, chrismas cake and ice cream. We also provide a tasty novelty stemming from long Icelandic tradition: a lamb tart based on blood or liver, called Sláturterta.
