The Icelandic Folk and Outsider Art Museum is one of the most unusual and outstanding museums in Iceland, it ́s founders passionately committed to collecting folk and outsider art and the exploration of the connection between all creative works. Today the collection comprises two parts: a general collection of 6,021 works by 326 artists, and the Kiko korrirí collection, an archive of between 120,000 and 130,000 drawings and sveral sculptures by Þórður Valdimarsson.
The museum presents its collection together with modern art without discrimination quality and sincerity being the only criteria, often creating a surprising and unusual combination, in itself a source for inspiration. In this way the museum has earned for itself a unique place on the Icelandic and international art scene, and a reputation for exhibiting every year a new combination of artworks that emphasize the beauty that lies within all forms of creative work and expression
