Borgarnes BB is a Guesthouse located in the site of Englendingavík creek in the heart of Borgarnes’s historical center. We offer eight comfortable and spacious rooms with made up beds, a free WiFi, access to a big kitchen with all facilities and a comfortable living room.
Borgarnes BB is located in a house that was built in 1947 for the chefs of the Cooperative society of the period, Kaupfélagið.
Englendingavík creek is an important part of the commercial history of Borgarnes, where a few of the oldest houses reside, and is a protected site in town. Its name is derived from the historical fact that the first houses that were built in Borgarnes, in 1877, were owned by Englishmen who started a business of salmon canning in the creek.
Borgarnes Bed & Breakfast is an ideal option for those who like quiet atmosphere by the sea, with only a few minutes walk to next museum, expositions, cafes and restaurants. It is popular among groups to rent the whole house for for themselves over one or more nights, with or without the menu of the house.
We love having groups of people travelling together staying at our house. Groups up to 20 people can hire the whole hose and stay by themselves for one or more nights.
As each group is unique the prices are not fixed , but we give offers depending on the nature of each group.
You can profit of the kitchen facilities and enjoy cooking your own food in the Guesthouse’s kitchen or you can just relax and let us prepare the menu of the house.
Then it is also possible to have a mixture of both.
We have had many Icelandic groups profiting of our offers, such as knitting- / sewing groups, friends that gather together regularly throughout life, old classmates on reunions etc, etc. We’d love to have more groups from abroad.
The house – Skúlagata 21
Skúlagata 21 was built in 1947 for the boss of the cooperative society of the period, Kaupfélagið, his family and servants. The Kaupfélag’s chefs belonged to the richest people of Iceland and the house is by some considered one of the most beautiful houses in Borgarnes.
The architect is Halldór Jónsson, who also designed the church of Borgarnes. The house of Borgarnes Bed & Breakfast has many unusual features, such as the handmade curved doors.
In 2007 Inger decided for once and all to be her own boss and opened Borgarnes Bed & Breakfast, combining the elements of being too independent to follow other peoples’ orders and the love of having guests over to her house.
Since then Inger has been welcoming guests from all over the world, fortifying her skills in English and the Scandinavian language and growing her collection of cows. Being an A person, she loves waking up before everybody else and preparing the breakfast buffet at Borgarnes Bed & Breakfast.
